I love the written word.

From winning a place at Oxford to study English at the age of 16 to writing a book on how to create rituals relevant to 21st century life, love and death, my lifelong passion for writing shows no sign of abating.

I am working on a book that explores how to combine creativity and ceremony to design rituals that are relevant for the 21st century. I am also researching our changing attitudes towards death and how other cultures approach funerals.

I write secular services for weddings, funerals and other bespoke ceremonies that touch the heart and inspire the mind.

I write in depth reports and presentations for brands, specialising in describing one worldview to another in order that there may be a newfound understanding of what makes others tick.

I write a blog for the Huffington Post and also for digital strategy platforms championing organisational innovation and creative sustainability.

I wrote and researched the websites of several major Warner Bros movies, including writing the entire historical section of the website of the WB movie Charlotte Gray, starring Cate Blanchett.

I write song lyrics, short stories and have kept a daily journal for nearly two decades.

I frequently write love letters to strangers, which I leave in nooks around the city.

Dinner with the Dead

Dinner with the Dead

This last weekend, the streets were awash with blood-spattered zombies and drunken ghouls. Elaborately carved pumpkins glowed in many windows and hordes of miniature monsters gathered on our doorsteps, demanding that we add to their sugary spoils. Between Halloween, Samhain, the Day of the Dead and All Souls, this is traditionally seen by many cultures… Continue Reading

How to Kick-Start Your Creativity With a Ritual

How to Kick-Start Your Creativity With a Ritual

The creative director of a global agency recently told me that when she gets stuck for ideas, she stands on her desk. “It literally gives me a different perspective,” she says. “A bit rebellious, maybe. But it works for me.” Given that Motley Crue’s backstage demands include a 12-foot boa constrictor, a sub-machine gun and… Continue Reading

Holding the Moment – Why We Still Need Ritual in Modern Life

Holding the Moment – Why We Still Need Ritual in Modern Life

When Grace Gelder‘s self-marriage hit the headlines last week, it started a conversation about what it means to celebrate single life with a ceremony. I was the one who led Grace’s ceremony that spring day. I’m what is known as a “celebrant” – someone who helps people create meaningful ceremonies that celebrate life, love and… Continue Reading

Autobiographers Club

In 2014, I created the Autobiographer’s Club, a memoir writing salon at the Proud Archivist in East London, which the trendsetting event listing Le Cool described as a “unique and creative evening workshop that aims to inspire, with star speakers and an explorative look at strategies to tell your story.”

Cultural Analyst

My work as a cultural analyst entails writing reports on everything from future trends in hiring digital superstars to understanding European teens to learning all about how Generation Y Londoners coalesce around drinking and thinking. I have worked for global brands and national charities, and am an associate at Atmosphere and at Lore Communication

“Tiu has been a truly exceptional. We worked together on a major brand-in-culture piece for a global brand, getting to grips with London’s drinking tribes – their lifestyles, the trends and social changes driving their world and diving deep into London’s influencers and the leading edge. Tiu was ferocious in the determination to identify and connect us with the right people and offered game-changing insights and cultural perspectives that helped us to move the strategic thinking for the client up a notch.
We hope to collaborate often”.
